Step-by-Step instructions for Planting Roses.
- If you have a bare root plant, soak it in a bucket of water before planting. For roses that are potted, you can water the pot thoroughly and let it sit until ready to plant.
- Dig a hole approximately 15 inches deep and 18 inches wide. If planting bare root roses, form a small mound of soil in the center of the planting hole. If you live in a colder area, plant a bit deeper and consult with your local garden center.
- Add a small handful of bonemeal to the planting hole. Spade in some compost or peatmoss to loosen the soil. Mix the soil you took out of the hole with more compost or peat moss.
- Remove the rose from the pot. Carefully place in the hole and shovel the extra soil around the new plant. Plant the rose with the crown slightly deeper than the original soil. The crown or bud union should be about 1 inch under the soil.
- Gently firm the rose into its new home and water well. Stand back and watch it grow!
Are roses easy to plant? Do they need a lot of care? And based on your post about the roses, are any of the thorns poisonous? If yes, which one? Which is your personal favorite? Based on the types you’ve mentioned, mine would be Gallica Roses! So pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteYes roses are easy to plant, and the way to plant them are as posted above.Yes they do need lots of care all it takes is lots of sun, a little fertilizer and, of course, consistent watering.Nothing is more important for a rose bush's survival and performance than water.Roses absolutely love water. No the thorns they aren't poisonous, but because of their hook shape they can make you itch if you get a cut from them.My personal favorite would be China Roses!..they are pretty too..:)

ReplyDeleteIts a good and very attaractive blog.I really like it. What a bout the soil, sand and the important ingredients that need to make the plant grow. there so many colours in roses and there is any difference in the way of the roses and the root....What are the suitable places that the roses should keep? Maybe in the shade or under the sun?
ReplyDeleteThe best soil is straight mountain soil with no additives. Be careful in choosing mixes that contain certain additives. You should buy straight soil additives free and then you can top dress the fertilizer on afterwards. You can see which fertilizer to use based on the type of your rose.
ReplyDeleteHaving fertilizer mixed in can in some cases be to much for certain plants especially in the warmer months as fertilizer should never sit below the top surface. Fertilizer around the roots can burn and no mix is ever the same. The suitable place for a roses not under hot sun, nor in the shade, roses need enough sun and also water for a rose to grow well.
